Why I Do This Work
“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”
~Bruce Lee
For me, the choice to become a counselor came from my experience as a therapy client and marks a moment when I chose to pursue work aligned with my values.
After high school, I went to business school, where I met great people, learned about leadership, and spent more time than I care to admit playing with Excel. I then joined a well-known company and led a team of about 15 people. This was a great learning experience, but after a couple of years, I found myself unhappy with work. I toughed it out for a while before deciding to change jobs.
After sending out many applications, I found work at a high-growth Software as a Service (SAAS) company. As someone who came of age during the tech hype of the 2010s, I saw this as the start of my dream career. This role gave me the chance to travel the country and meet leaders of some of the biggest companies. It was like seeing my own future, but behind the good food, great drinks, and nice houses, I saw sadness in many of the people I was striving to become. I felt I had flown too close to the sun. All this was unfolding as I was seeing a counselor for support in navigating a major family conflict.
My counselor helped me recognize the impact my career was having on me and supported me as I navigated a career change. I considered many options, ranging from non-profit fundraising to forestry, law, turf management, and ultimately counseling. Counseling stood out as a profession where I could use my interests in biology, psychology, and philosophy to support my genuine care for others, and my experience had demonstrated to me that it really worked.
I know firsthand how much effective counseling can change someone’s life. It would be dishonest to say that therapy rid my life of all challenges and pain. A more accurate statement is that therapy helped me develop the confidence, relationships, and skills to navigate the challenges and pain everyone experiences at some point in their lives. I do this work because I know life can be hard, and that the hard parts are a little easier with someone you trust on your team.
About Me: When I’m not working, I split my free time between interests that would appeal to a teenage boy and those that fit a middle-aged man. The teenager in me enjoys video games like Overwatch, Elden Ring, and Madden. I also spend a lot of time on YouTube and following internet culture. On the other hand, the middle-aged side of me likes taking care of the lawn, starting DIY projects, working on cars, talking about politics and finance, and remembering to wear sunscreen.
If I could be a good fit for what you are looking for, I would be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation with you.

My Approach
My approach to counseling is grounded primarily in two traditions: Existential-Humanistic Therapy (EHT) and Relational Cultural Therapy (RCT). In addition to these theories, I adapt to your specific needs by integrating concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness practices.
Existential-Humanistic Therapy has roots in the writings of western philosophers beginning in the mid-1800s. In the 1950s American psychotherapists adapted concepts from these early writings to help clients beyond symptom management towards understanding of the “why” behind the symptoms. While info about the past may be helpful this approach is focused on the present. EHT is most helpful for people dealing with anxiety, depression, or feeling unsure about their place in the world.
“Existential-humanistic psychology seeks to be honest about the human condition, including inherent challenges, potentials, and limitations.” ~ Louis Hoffman, PhD
Relational Cultural Therapy was first created in the 1970s by psychologists who wanted to understand how feeling disconnected from yourself, others, culture, or society affects mental health, especially among women. The approach has since been changed to better help men with their relationship challenges. RCT believes that everyone wants to connect with others and that this connection is necessary for healthy growth. RCT is most useful for people feeling isolated, lonely, anxious, depressed, having low self-esteem, or wanting to improve their relationship skills.
Therapy with me... I believe that the most successful counseling relationships are collaborative, leading to growth in both the client and counselor. In session, I prioritize remaining open-minded, non-judgmental, and curious to create an environment where you can “tell it like it is.” As we get to know each other more, I will challenge you to try on new perspectives, dive deeper into ideas & feelings, and most importantly, tell me when I am wrong. I want clients to feel empowered in session and in their lives to make decisions that align with who they are and who they hope to become.

Experience
I began practicing counseling in 2025, working both in a private practice and with the Northeastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia’s accountability court program. These experiences provided me with opportunities to see a diverse group of clients with a wide range of presenting concerns, access to resources, belief systems, and life experiences.
